Rooster Walk 6 Review

May 23rd began one of the best weekends of festival season - Rooster Walk 6.

The Rock Camp Productions crew arrived to the grounds around mid-afternoon with a hot and sunny welcome from those sweet south western Virginia foothills. We went through the motions of setting up camp and grabbing a bite to eat from the festival famous Sugar Shack before "bearing up."

Once everyone was refueled and energized, the Dancing Bears were making their way to the main stage to boogie through the crowd for Santum Sully's set! The Bears are a hit with children, so many pit stops were made along the way to get a shot with one or both of the Bears.

The evening continued on with amazing performances by Anders Osborne and Pimps of Joytime, a personal favorite of mine! The night came to an end all too quickly but Saturday was overflowing with great music and performances.

One day-set that really stuck with me was After Jack - these girls were not only talented string players but had beautiful vocals as well. Around 4 in the afternoon the Bears danced along in the children's parade and hung out taking pictures and giving great big bear hugs on through to the Infamous Stringdusters' set.

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe was so funky that it brought Puff T. Magic-Dragon out of hibernation and right up to the main stage! After taking a little break and watching Crazyredbeard live paint, he was up and rearing to go again for Particle's set at the Creekside Stage. And I have to say they put on a killer show! After arching sight of Puff T, Particle played an awesome cover of Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar" - to which Puff danced vigorously! Lyrics such as "Oh by the way, which one's Pink" and "It could be made into a monster, if we all pull together as a team" were appropriate!!

The night continued on at the Silent Disco Stage that brought in Sunday morning.

The Bears made one last appearance for the weekend during Hotel DeVille's set. This group is a Grateful Dead cover band, so there was no way that there would not be Dancing Bears around! The rest of the day was filled with other great acts such as Pink Moon Festival's own The Shack Band and Kings of Belmont. Yarn played later in the evening with an amazing and crazy long set that kept me wanting to hear more! I ended my night in at the Silent Disco Stage, so incredibly content with how wonderful of a weekend it had been.

If you did not make it out to Rooster Walk 6, I encourage everyone to try to attend next year - but hey, I might be a little bit biased since it is my old stomping grounds!

A huge thank you goes to all musicians, artists, staff, volunteers, and attendees for coming together to create such an unforgettable experience.

And if you liked our Dancing Bears and Dragon, be sure to head over and give Rock Camp Productions and Puff T. Magic-Dragon a "like" on Facebook!
